This is a working draft, not signed-off legal text. Every [TO CONFIRM] below is a commercial decision G-Trans has not yet made, or a figure we deliberately refuse to invent. In particular there is no statement anywhere on this page about liability limits or insurance cover, because neither has been confirmed — and a transport company that publishes the wrong number for either has published a promise it may not be able to keep.
Have a lawyer in the contracting country read this before it goes live. What it does today is stop the site making claims it cannot support, which is the more urgent of the two jobs.
1. Who these terms are with
These terms govern your use of gtrans.lv and the requests you send through it. In them, "we", "us" and "G-Trans" mean the company operating this site; "you" means the person or business using it.
The contracting party is GTRANS BALTIC UAB, company code 303340445, VAT LT100017324910, registered on 1 July 2014, registered office Įsruties g. 2-28, LT-06218 Vilnius, Lithuania, operating from Daugavas iela 38, Mārupe, Mārupes novads, LV-2167, Latvia.

2. What this website is
The site describes services and lets you ask for a price. Nothing on it is an offer capable of acceptance, and nothing on it forms a contract. We keep the information accurate and current as far as we reasonably can, but we do not warrant that every page is free of error, and we may change any of it without notice.
Where we describe routes, coverage or how a shipment works, we are describing what we normally arrange — not guaranteeing that a particular movement is available on a particular day.
3. Quotes and how a job starts
- You send a request through the form, by phone, by email or on WhatsApp.
- We reply with a price. We reply within 24 hours — the same business day if you contacted us before 12:00.
- A quote is only binding on us if we have given it in writing, and only for the period stated in it [TO CONFIRM] — set a default validity period, for example seven days.
- A quote is calculated on the information you gave us. If the goods, the vehicle, the addresses, the weight, the dimensions or the access turn out to be materially different, the price may change, and we will tell you before we act on it.
- A contract exists when we confirm your booking in writing, not when a quote is sent.
We do not publish prices or transit times on this website. Both depend on the lane, the season, the ferry schedule and the load, and a number published out of that context would be misleading.
4. The carriage itself — the CMR Convention
International carriage of goods by road is subject to the CMR Convention — the Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road, signed at Geneva on 19 May 1956, together with its Protocol of 5 July 1978. It applies automatically, by force of law, to a contract for the carriage of goods by road for reward where the place of collection and the place of delivery are in two different countries and at least one of them is a party to the Convention. That covers essentially every movement we arrange between the Nordics and the Baltics.
What that means in practice:
- The consignment note is the document that matters. The CMR note records what was handed over, in what condition, to whom, and on what terms. Sign it carefully and keep your copy.
- The Convention, not this page, governs the carrier's liability for loss of, damage to, or delay in delivery of the goods, and it sets out how claims are made and the time limits for making them. Those rules cannot be contracted out of: Article 41 makes any stipulation which departs from the Convention null and void.
- Tell us in writing as soon as you see a problem. The Convention imposes short deadlines for notifying loss, damage or delay, and a claim raised late can be lost purely on timing.
[TO CONFIRM] Nothing about liability amounts or insurance cover appears on this page, and nothing should be added until the client has confirmed it in writing. If additional cover beyond the Convention is available for a particular shipment, that is agreed for that shipment, in writing, before it moves — never asserted on a website.
Sea freight is a different regime
Container shipments arranged from Riga are not governed by CMR. They are governed by the ocean carrier's bill of lading and the conventions that apply to it, together with the standard forwarding conditions under which we act [TO CONFIRM] — name the conditions that actually apply, if any. Do not cite FIATA conditions: G-Trans holds no FIATA membership.
5. Dates, and why we do not guarantee them
Collection and delivery dates we give you are estimates made in good faith. Under Article 6(2)(f) of the CMR Convention, an agreed time limit for delivery is binding only if it has actually been written into the consignment note. If you need a delivery date to be contractually binding, tell us before booking so it can be recorded there — otherwise it is a plan, not a promise.
Ferries, weather, winter road conditions, border queues and customs processing are outside our control and outside the driver's. We will tell you promptly when a schedule moves.
6. What you have to do
- Describe the goods accurately — what they are, what they weigh, what they measure, and anything unusual about them.
- Give complete addresses and a contact who will answer the phone at both ends. Most failed collections are a phone that nobody picks up.
- Make the goods available at the agreed place and time, ready to load, with safe access for a truck.
- For a vehicle: empty it of personal belongings, provide the keys so the steering lock can be released, and make sure it rolls, steers and brakes. Tell us in advance if it does not start — that is a normal job, not a problem, but only if we know before the truck is assigned.
- Provide the documents needed for the movement, including anything customs requires.
- Do not hand over prohibited or dangerous goods — see section 7.
Where a wasted journey, a re-delivery or a failed loading is caused by information you gave us being wrong, or by nobody being there, the cost of that may be charged to you [TO CONFIRM] — decide whether to charge for it and on what basis.
7. What we will not carry
Personal belongings left inside a vehicle are not part of the consignment and are not covered — please empty the vehicle. Cash, jewellery, documents of title and similar high-value items must not be placed in a consignment without written agreement.
[TO CONFIRM] Dangerous goods. State plainly whether ADR-classified goods are accepted at all, and under what conditions. Until that is confirmed, the safe position is that they are not accepted unless agreed in writing in advance for the specific shipment.
8. Customs, duties and taxes
Norway is inside the EEA but outside the EU customs union. A shipment to or from Norway needs a customs declaration, while a shipment between, say, Sweden and Latvia does not. We arrange the formalities as part of the job. The same applies to sea freight leaving the customs territory of the Union.
Any duty, import VAT, inspection charge or storage cost levied by an authority is payable by the party responsible for it under the agreed terms [TO CONFIRM] — state who that is by default, and what happens if a shipment is held.
9. Payment
[TO CONFIRM] This entire section. It needs: the currency, whether payment is due before collection or after delivery, the payment terms for account customers, accepted payment methods, what happens to a shipment if payment is not made, and the interest rate applied to late payment. None of it can be guessed.
10. Changing or cancelling a booking
[TO CONFIRM] The cancellation rules. How much notice is needed, and whether a charge applies once a truck has been assigned or a driver has set off. If you are a consumer rather than a business, your statutory rights under national consumer law apply in addition to anything agreed here, and nothing in these terms limits them [TO CONFIRM] — have the consumer position checked by a lawyer in the contracting country.
11. Complaints and claims
Tell us first, in writing, at contact@gtrans.lv, and include the quote reference. Note any visible damage on the consignment note at the moment of delivery, before signing, and photograph it — a note on the CMR made at delivery is worth more than any account given afterwards.
Claims relating to international carriage by road are handled under the CMR Convention, which sets its own procedure and its own time limits (section 4).
12. Governing law and jurisdiction
[TO CONFIRM] The governing law and the competent courts. The contracting party is now settled — GTRANS BALTIC UAB, registered in Lithuania, operating from Latvia — but which law governs the commercial relationship, and which courts hear a dispute about it, is a separate choice the client still has to make. Note that for carriage covered by CMR, Article 31 of the Convention gives the claimant a choice of jurisdictions regardless of what a contract says, so this clause governs the rest of the relationship rather than the carriage claim itself.
13. Using the website
